Finalists for this year's prestigious PANPA Advertising & Marketing Awards were announced today for member publishers from across the Asia-Pacific region.

Last year, The Newspaper Works combined its highly successful annual Ad Awards with the Marketing category of the Newspaper of the Year awards, and category segmentation now occurs by readership, as defined by emma.

The Advertising & Marketing Awards seek to recognise and celebrate advertising and marketing campaigns used by the publishing industry. The Advertising categories recognise publishers' in-house work only, while both agency and in-house executions are eligible for the Marketing categories.

This year's Advertising & Marketing Awards winners will be announced on Thursday September 10th, at a cocktail event, hosted by media personality Magdalena Roze at the Zeta Bar at Sydney's Hilton Hotel at the end of day one of the Future Forum.

Says Mark Hollands, chief executive, The Newspaper Works: "The Advertising & Marketing Awards allow us to recognise the outstanding talent and work that is reshaping how the newspaper media industry markets and sells itself to readers, advertisers and media agencies. Congratulations to all the finalists in a very competitive field of more than 500 entries."

UNFORTUNATELY,  the now defunct metro publication, mX due to its untimely demise failed to be shortlisted in any category.

Traditionally a show stopper, mX's creative nature always was synonym with high impact executions that filled the pages with incredibly inspiring , attention grabbing work.  After trying to get the official answer PANPA officials decided that to "Award work featured in a closed publication would cast a dark shadow on the industry"

This is another example as to why Awards cannot dictate the worth of a piece of creative - as the Award Industry itself is flawed.

AS This years PANPA FINALISTS ARE FINALLY ANNOUNCED - DECEASED mX IS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND
